Successful Physician Relationships… legal issues and compensation.

Aim:  Mr. Johnson will share information and lay the foundation for our discussion related to the overarching topic and strategy of successful physician relationships. Creating and maintaining effective relationships with physicians requires close attention to business goals and objectives, legal compliance and compensation-related details.  This session will consider the legal framework within which effective relationships must be crafted and operated, to include consideration of new developments related to Stark, tax-exempt organization law and other legal and regulatory considerations.  The session will also examine a range of compensation models used by hospitals and health systems with employed and contracted physicians and their practices with a blended focus on regulatory and practical considerations.  Compensation-related topics will include aligning compensation methods with plan goals and objectives, common production-based, base plus incentive and other models, fair market value and other considerations. The session will blend presentation with facilitated discussion to draw out attendee experiences.

Treating the Root Cause of Physician Disengagement

Aim:  Concept: Dr. Brian Wong will lead a discussion focusing on a new philosophy for healthcare and an introduction to the TRUST Cycle.  Using the five fundamentals of The TRUST Cycle he will diagnose the root cause of disengagement in every medical community he has seen and propose a comprehensive and effective new treatment to solve this challenge that will be relevant to all participants.

Application: Dr. Lisa Alexander will describe how The TRUST Cycle has been deployed at Parrish Medical Center over the last 3 years.  Together, they will illustrate how this simple framework can help any organization break through the pervasive hopelessness, despair and cynicism that exists in almost all healthcare organizations by:

  • Identifying an organization's most trusted colleagues while dealing effectively with disruptive behavior wherever it occurs
  • Engaging and aligning all key stakeholders (physicians, nurses, staff and executives)
  • Resolving conflicts quickly and effectively while building trust in every conversation
  • Making the correct unifying diagnosis in our organizational challenges before starting treatment and
  • Repeating this simple cycle over and over to help any organization solve most any problem by themselves
